What data sources does PostcodeCheck use?
We pull from over 20 official government data sources, including Police UK crime data, Ofsted school inspections, Land Registry sold prices, EPC energy ratings, Environment Agency flood maps, DfT transport connectivity scores, ONS Census data, and Ofcom broadband statistics.
How accurate are PostcodeCheck area reports?
Very accurate. Every data point comes directly from official UK government sources. Crime data is updated monthly by Police UK, property prices come from HM Land Registry, and school ratings are from Ofsted. We do not use estimates or user-submitted data for our core metrics.
Can I compare two postcodes side by side?
Yes. Use our free comparison tool at postcodecheck.co.uk/compare to see two areas scored across crime, schools, property, transport, broadband, and more. It is one of the most popular features on the site.
What is the Area Score?
The Area Score is a single number from 0 to 100 that summarises the overall quality of an area. It is calculated from sub-scores across safety, schools, property value, transport, environment, and amenities. The average UK area scores around 72.
How often is the data updated?
Crime data updates monthly. Property prices update as new Land Registry transactions are published. School ratings update after each Ofsted inspection. Most other data sources refresh quarterly or annually. Reports are regenerated every 24 hours.
